Principal Engineer (IBM i/IBM Z) - 6 months+ - Hybrid/Sheffield - Umbrella £550/£570

Recruiting a Principal Engineer to lead and evolve our clients Core Enterprise Platforms, with deep expertise in IBM i and IBM Z. This is a senior, hands-on role owning platform stability, performance, and resilience across business-critical systems on for a global function.

Client is looking for continuity for this 2 year programme.

The Role:

• Act as technical authority for IBMi and IBMz platforms
• Lead capacity management, performance tuning, and scalability planning
• Advise/challenge and implement good DevOps practices
• Own backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategy and execution
• Ensure high availability, resilience, and operational excellence
• Drive platform standards, architecture decisions, and technical roadmaps
• Resolve complex incidents and mentor senior engineers

To apply you should bring the following skills and experience:

• 5+ years principal/senior engineering position
• Extensive experience with IBM i and IBM Z (Mainframe)
• Strong background in capacity planning and performance management
• Proven expertise in backup, recovery, and DR for enterprise platforms
• Experience operating large-scale, mission-critical environments
• Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• A background in Financial Services would be nice but not mandatory
