Senior Communications Engineer - Birmingham/Remote - £44 per hour umbrella - CONTRACT
We are looking for an experienced Senior/Principal Communications Engineer looking to develop their career in a positive environment to work for a leading Engineering organisation. This role will be based in their Birmingham offices 2 days per week and remote for 3 on contract.
This role will allow development of existing technical skills as well as providing potential to expand digital and project management skills.
Requirements:
- Degree qualified, or equivalent qualification in a Communications, Electronic Engineering, or ICT related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or be working towards Chartership.
- Experience working on projects across a number of our focus markets (Nuclear, Defence, Infrastructure, Government, and Transportation
- Experience of designing building systems including.
- Building Management Systems (BMS),
- Video Surveillance Systems (VSS),
- Access Control Systems (ACS),
- Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS),
- Experience of designing Public Address Voice Alarm (PAVA) systems
- Experience of designing structured cabling systems, including copper and fibre optic systems and the associated physical network infrastructure.
- Good understanding of IP data networking, systems design, and the associated active and passive network infrastructure.
- Some understanding of AV systems design.
- A background of working in engineering consultancy, including an understanding of RIBA/BSRIA design stages, working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary design team.
- Experience of attending site and monitoring works, including familiarity with the installation and commissioning stages of the project for communications systems and their supporting ancillaries (such as containment, power).
- Ability to manage packages of work, taking charge of their own deliverables and the deliverables of others to successfully meet project deadlines.
- Excellent report writing ability, with experience of writing specifications of varying detail to align with the requirements of the RIBA stages.
- Experience of working in a client-facing role, presenting their designs and leading discussions on behalf of the communications discipline.
- Able to act on their own initiative, solving problems on projects and building relationships across the wider team and practice.
- Experience of digital engineering technologies/Building Information Management (BIM), the ability to use key software packages such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD would be desirable.
- Hold UK BPSS Security Clearance.

Commercial -

Technical -
- Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.
- Preparation of design documentation for communications systems, including report writing to company standards.
- Preparation of communications drawings and schematics for drafting by the team.
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary design team
- Assumes technical responsibility and operational accountability for Building Services team output on projects.
- Familiar with relevant industry standards and guidelines.
- Comfortable in communicating and challenging other design team members to arrive at the optimum Building Services design solution.
- Has an engineering design background and able to fully demonstrate an ability to design and lead Communications design teams.
- Extensive design experience in the construction or transportation sectors.
- Able to demonstrate a full understanding of the key Building Services design considerations when working on projects.
