Senior Developer - Edinburgh/Remote - £500.00 Per Day Outside IR35
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Developer to join a collaborative Agile team delivering modern, customer-focused digital services. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the development of scalable web applications and REST APIs, helping to build and enhance high-quality digital products that make a real impact.
You'll work alongside multidisciplinary teams to design, develop and improve software using modern engineering practices, contributing to the delivery of secure, resilient and maintainable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain web applications and RESTful APIs using Java, Spring Boot and Python/Flask.
- Enhance existing digital products by delivering new features and continuous improvements based on user feedback.
- Produce clean, maintainable and well-tested code using industry best practices.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate closely with developers, testers, designers and product stakeholders.
- Lead technical discussions and provide expertise on solution design and implementation.
- Carry out code reviews, pair programming and collaborative design sessions.
- Ensure software meets non-functional requirements including security, accessibility, performance and maintainability.
- Troubleshoot issues across development, test and production environments.
- Mentor and support other developers, sharing knowledge and encouraging continuous improvement.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and service resilience activities where required.
Essential Skills & Experience
We're looking for someone with strong commercial experience in:
- Java 11+
- Python 3
- Spring Boot and Flask microservices
- Spring Security and OAuth2
- React and modern JavaScript frameworks
- HTML and CSS, with an understanding of accessibility standards
- OpenShift
- Docker, Jenkins and CI/CD pipelines
- PostgreSQL and MongoDB
- REST API development
- Agile software delivery
- Infrastructure as Code
- Unit testing and test automation
- Event-driven and service-oriented architectures
- Cloud monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana
- Modern DevOps practices
- Working within cross-functional, high-performing development teams
Desirable Skills
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
- AWS services including Lambda, S3, API Gateway and Aurora PostgreSQL
- AWS CloudFormation and CDK
- TypeScript
