Clinical Coder
Job summary
Are you highly organised, detail-focused, and looking for a rewarding role at the heart of general practice? Clifton Medical Centre, a friendly and well-established town centre practice in Rotherham serving 13,000 patients across two sites, is looking for a Clinical Coder to join our supportive team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who takes pride in accuracy and wants their work to make a genuine difference to patient care. As our Clinical Coder, you'll play a vital behind-the-scenes role ensuring patient records are accurate, up to date, and correctly coded, so our clinicians have the information they need to deliver safe, high-quality care.
No two days are the same. You'll process incoming clinical correspondence, manage workflow, and support our wider multidisciplinary team of GPs, nurses, pharmacists and administrative staff. Full training and induction will be provided, so whether you're an experienced coder or new to the role and keen to learn, we'd love to hear from you.
If you enjoy working as part of a close-knit team, have excellent attention to detail, and want a role where your accuracy directly supports patient care, we'd love you to join us at Clifton Medical Centre.
Main duties of the job
As Clinical Coder, you'll be responsible for keeping our patients' electronic health records accurate and up to date. You'll review incoming clinical correspondence and ensure the right information is coded correctly and promptly, helping our clinical team make informed decisions about patient care.
You'll manage documents and workflow efficiently, using our clinical system to scan, attach and file information as it comes in, and you'll help make sure nothing important is missed or delayed.
Alongside coding, you'll be a familiar and helpful presence for our wider practice team answering queries, passing on information to the right person, and pitching in with general administrative support when needed. You may also provide occasional cover for reception duties.
This role suits someone who enjoys detailed, methodical work but also likes being part of a busy, people-focused environment. You'll need a good eye for detail, solid IT skills, and the confidence to prioritise your own workload. Previous coding or healthcare admin experience is a bonus, but not essential full training will be given.
About us
Clifton Medical Centre is a friendly, town centre-based GP practice in Rotherham, serving 13,000 patients across two sites. We're proud of the warm, team-focused atmosphere we've built, where staff genuinely support one another and everyone's contribution is valued, whatever their role.
Our multidisciplinary team includes GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, and a dedicated Practice Manager, Reception and Administrative team, all working closely together to deliver excellent patient care. We believe strong teamwork behind the scenes is just as important as clinical care on the front line, and administrative and coding staff are treated as integral members of that team, not an afterthought.
We're a practice that values accuracy, compassion and a can-do attitude, and we invest in our staff through full induction, ongoing training and development opportunities. In return, we offer a supportive working environment, NHS Pension membership where applicable, and the chance to build a genuinely rewarding career in primary care.
If you're looking for a workplace where your work matters and your colleagues have your back, we'd love you to be part of our team.
