Content Designer

To do that, we need enthusiastic and talented content designers who can work within a multidisciplinary team across digital and non-digital channels, to produce consistent content to style and supportive of design patterns.

Users first

We create digital services that put the user first. A content designer helps the user to understand what they need to do and explains how they can do it as quickly as possible. They do this by providing the user the information they need at the right time.

Main responsibilities

The types of projects you will work on as a content designer are varied but will usually involve some kind of content transition or transformation, including designing or redesigning government services.

You can expect to be involved with:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the Government Digital Service (GDS) to ensure content aligns with style and service standards.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders, facilitating meetings and workshops to identify project needs and subject matter.
  • Develop and implement effective content strategies to meet project objectives.
  • Champion user-centered content and support colleagues in adopting this approach.
  • Scope, commission, write, edit, and publish content across digital platforms.
  • Design and enhance user journeys for improved experiences.
  • Create accurate, timely, and high-quality content that adheres to government and departmental style guides.
  • Ensure policy and legal compliance, monitor content and service performance, and analyse user feedback to inform improvements.
  • Continually seek opportunities to refine and improve content and services.
  • Comfortably work within an agile environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.

You will be successful if you can demonstrate the below skills and experience:

  • Previous experience in content design, communication, content copywriting, journalism or related field
  • The ability to work effectively in an agile, multidisciplinary team and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • You have excellent spelling and grammar, and you can write clearly using style guides and plain English.
  • You use data and user research to inform content decisions and continuously improve content.
  • Your are user-centered and you design accessible content and journeys across digital platforms.
  • You ensure compliance with policy, legal, and quality standards in all published content.
  • You can devise and implement content strategies to meet business and user objectives.
