Overview
We’re looking for an experienced Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer to support the design and delivery of a modern, cloud-based data platform. This role is highly ETL-focused, requiring strong hands-on engineering capability across Microsoft Fabric, Azure, SQL, and PySpark.
You’ll play a key role in building scalable data pipelines, migrating legacy logic (including Qlik), and enabling advanced analytics through robust, well-architected data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines using Microsoft Fabric
- Develop and optimise data workflows across Lakehouse and Warehouse architectures
- Translate and migrate Qlik load scripts into SQL/PySpark-based transformations
- Implement scalable data ingestion frameworks (batch and real-time where required)
- Work with Fabric Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, and orchestration tools
- Write and optimise SQL/T-SQL and PySpark code for high-performance data processing
- Ensure data quality, monitoring, alerting, and pipeline reliability
- Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to deliver Power BI-ready datasets
- Contribute to documentation, best practices, and knowledge sharing
- Support integration of AI/automation capabilities within the data platform where applicable
Required Experience
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer in Microsoft Fabric (production environment)
- Strong hands-on expertise in ETL/ELT pipeline development
- Advanced SQL/T-SQL skills
- Strong experience with PySpark / Spark-based data processing
- Experience working within the Azure data ecosystem (ADF, Synapse, Databricks, ADLS)
- Experience with Qlik (Qlik Sense or QlikView) and migration of Qlik logic
- Solid understanding of Lakehouse vs Warehouse architecture and trade-offs
- Experience with data modelling (star schema, medallion architecture)
- Familiarity with CI/CD, monitoring, and data pipeline optimisation
Desirable Skills
- Microsoft Fabric Certification (DP-600 / DP-700)
- Exposure to AI/ML or automation (e.g. Python, ML pipelines, Copilot, GenAI)
- Experience building datasets for Power BI / semantic models
- Knowledge of data governance tools (e.g. Purview)
