OpenShift Administrator / Platform Engineer

Location: Sheffield (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

Contract Type: Long-Term Contract

Overview

We are seeking an experienced OpenShift Administrator / Platform Engineer to support the delivery and operation of enterprise-scale container and virtualization platforms. The successful candidate will have strong hands-on expertise with Red Hat OpenShift, KVM virtualization, Linux administration, and platform automation within complex production environments.

Key Responsibilities

OpenShift Administration

  • Deploy, configure, administer, and support Red Hat OpenShift clusters across on-premise and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Perform cluster upgrades, patching, troubleshooting, and platform lifecycle management.
  • Manage OpenShift networking, storage, security, ingress, and RBAC configurations.
  • Monitor platform health, performance, and capacity to ensure high availability.
  • Support containerized application deployments and platform operations.

KVM Virtualization Administration

  • Administer and maintain KVM-based virtualized infrastructure.
  • Provision, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize virtual machine environments.
  • Implement performance tuning, capacity planning, and high-availability solutions.
  • Ensure platform security, compliance, and operational resilience.

Monitoring, Automation & Support

  • Implement and maintain monitoring solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, or equivalent technologies.
  • Develop automation using Shell Scripting, Ansible, and related tools.
  • Perform incident investigation, root cause analysis, and problem resolution.
  • Support operational excellence through proactive platform management.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work closely with Infrastructure, DevOps, Security, and Development teams.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipeline integration and platform engineering initiatives.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.

Required Skills & Experience (Maximum 8 Points)

  1. 7+ years of infrastructure engineering experience with strong Linux administration expertise.
  2. Extensive hands-on experience administering Red Hat OpenShift in enterprise environments.
  3. Strong experience managing KVM virtualization platforms and virtual machine infrastructure.
  4. Solid understanding of Kubernetes, Docker/Podman, container orchestration, and cloud-native technologies.
  5. Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible and Shell Scripting.
  6. Strong networking, storage, security, and troubleshooting skills.
  7. Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions including Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, or similar.
  8. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, GitOps practices, and DevOps methodologies.

Desirable Skills

  • Red Hat OpenShift certification.
  • RHCE certification.
  • Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Exposure to AWS, Azure, or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Experience with GitLab, Jenkins, ArgoCD, or Tekton.

Working Arrangement

  • Sheffield-based assignment.
  • Hybrid working model: 3 days onsite per week.
  • Long-term programme of work.
