Job summary

As our new Health Data Analyst, youll play a vital role in helping Compass deliver life-changing services by transforming health data into actionable insight. Working in a small but influential Data Insights and Intelligence team, you'll support our services and stakeholders with robust data analysis, insightful reporting, and meaningful interpretation that drives real-world impact for children, young people and families.

You'll lead on the capture, management, and analysis of health data from a wide range of sources, ensuring it is accurate, accessible, and supports evidence-based decision making.

Your work will underpin everything from strategic planning to mandatory health reporting including submissions like the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) and National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS). You'll use tools such as Power BI, SQL, Excel and Python to deliver high-quality dashboards and reports, helping both internal teams and external partners understand the story behind the numbers.

You'll also ensure data governance, security and quality standards are upheld at every step, championing the principles of privacy and integrity across all our systems. Whether collaborating with NHS commissioners, supporting service teams or communicating technical findings in an accessible way, your insight will be valued and your voice heard.

Main duties of the job

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following essential criteria:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification or equivalent NHS experience

  • Experience working with health data in the NHS, local government or voluntary sector

  • Knowledge of health-related datasets and mandatory reporting

  • Skilled in analysing and communicating complex data clearly

  • Proficient in Power BI, Excel, DAX, Python and SQL

  • Strong knowledge of Caldicott Guidelines, Data Quality Standards and UK GDPR

  • Experience supporting strategic performance reporting and service insight

  • Able to manage competing priorities, work to tight deadlines, and stay focused under pressure

  • Collaborative, values-led and confident building relationships across teams

  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Comfortable working with large datasets and clinical systems

  • Self-motivated, curious, and committed to continuous improvement

In addition, the following desirable criteria will help you thrive:

Experience in public health reporting, service transformation or project delivery, as well as qualifications such as Microsoft PL300, membership of a relevant organisation, or postgraduate study in analytics, statistics or business intelligence. An understanding of NHS priorities and a passion for using data to improve services for children, young people and families will also set you apart.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent relevant professional or management qualification or Equivalent level of knowledge gained through relevant work experience in the NHS
Desirable
  • Membership of a relevant organisation
  • Microsoft PL300 Certified
  • Postgraduate training in business intelligence/ business reporting/ statistical analysis
  • Recognized project management qualification

Experience

Essential
  • Experience of working with health data and information either in the NHS or local government or voluntary sector
  • Experience of NHS reporting for contract management/ performance management
  • In depth knowledge and experience of working with health-related datasets
  • Experience of accurate and timely completion of mandatory health information returns
  • Experience of supporting strategic performance insights and data management
  • Working with clinical systems
  • Experience of collaborative and partnership working across organisational hierarchies and boundaries
  • Excellent track record of delivering to deadlines and balancing competing priorities
  • Experience of supporting the analysis and interpretation of complex health and population information and presenting it in an accessible manner
  • Knowledge and experience of using Power BI, Excel, Dax, Python and SQL for data processing, transformation and analysis
  • Experience of supporting the development, management and maintenance of management information systems and data warehouses and their implementation
  • Knowledge of Caldicott Guidelines, Data Quality Standards and UK GDPR
