Head of release Planning

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Release Management Team, ensuring effective orchestration of release events, go/no-go checkpoints, and service restoration.
  • Oversee the Future Schedule Planning Team, managing dependencies and integration plans for production changes.
  • Manage complex major changes across inter-dependent components, shared infrastructure, and code deployments.
  • Ensure modern cutover and release management practices, with a strong emphasis on automation.
  • Drive governance controls for production releases and lead operational meetings for seamless delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders, operational managers, suppliers, and third-party support teams.
  • Establish and refine operational policies, standards, and guidelines for the release management process.

Tools & Technical Environment

  • The team operates within a complex technical estate, using c, SAP, and ServiceNow (familiarity is beneficial but not essential).
  • Over 1,000 dynamic platforms exist within this space, requiring a confident individual comfortable with complexity.
  • Current release planning is done via Excel spreadsheets, as a previous attempt to use Plutora was unsuccessful.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Technical Expertise - A strong grasp of modern cutover planning and release management, with a key focus on automation.
  • Strategic Thinking - Ability to assess current processes and recommend efficient, automated ways of working.
  • Performance Management - Implement functional tracking, KPIs, and volumetrics to measure effectiveness (none currently exist).
  • Change Management & Leadership - Take the team on a positive transformation journey, addressing concerns about job security while driving improvements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Work closely with project managers, ensuring cutover plans align with project delivery timelines.
