Associate Information Governance Officer

Connect2Hackney are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Associate Information Management Officer to join our vibrant ICT & Workplace Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a crucial role in ensuring Hackney Council's information is managed securely, transparently, and effectively.

If you have a passion for data protection and experience within a local government setting, particularly with sensitive information relating to Children's Social Care, we want to hear from you!

About the Role

As an Associate Information Management Officer, you will be at the heart of our information governance. Your role is essential for providing prompt and effective support for all aspects of information and records management across the Council by consistently applying our established policies and procedures.

A significant part of your responsibilities will be managing formal information access requests, such as those made under Data Protection (Subject Access Requests) and Freedom of Information legislation. Your day-to-day work will be varied and will include:

  • Carrying out the routine collection of information and records as directed.
  • Applying specific security controls to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our business information systems.
  • Performing basic risk assessments for small information systems and maintaining clear documentation.
  • Providing key administrative support to the team, including compiling and distributing reports.

You'll be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team, using an Agile methodology to enable rapid and flexible delivery. We pride ourselves on creating a collaborative environment that promotes the generous sharing of expertise and provides opportunities for continuous learning. This role contributes directly to Council-wide initiatives that implement the Mayor's priorities and meet the needs of Hackney's residents and businesses. The post may require participation in an out-of-hours support rota, for which additional payment will be offered.

About You

We are looking for someone with a methodical approach and a strong understanding of data protection principles. You will be a confident communicator, able to interact with colleagues, partners, and service users with professionalism and sensitivity.

Crucially, you must have experience in the following areas:

  • Working with Subject Access Requests (SARs), specifically those relating to Children's Social Care.
  • Applying your skills within a local government setting.
  • Undertaking detailed redactions and applying exemptions in line with UK data protection legislation.
  • Engaging with social workers and Children's Services staff to understand the necessity and sensitivities of redactions before disclosure.
  • Communicating with care-experienced individuals with a high degree of sensitivity and respect.
