Device Refresh Technician - (Contractor)
About the Role
The Device Refresh Team deploys approximately 330 new laptops each month across Hampshire County Council and manages the collection of outgoing equipment for disposal. The rollout operates largely through a self-service model with minimal direct IT involvement.
As a contractor, you will follow defined processes to prepare and hand over devices to staff and provide basic troubleshooting when required. You may also support the wider team with general desktop support tasks.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong self-organisation and motivation
- Able to assist customers who have limited technical confidence and knowledge with setting up their work-issued IT equipment and provide basic IT support and troubleshooting.
- Clear and confident communication skills, both in person and by phone
- Ability to manage challenging customer interactions professionally
- Ability to follow defined processes and guidance accurately
- Proficiency with Microsoft SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Good problem-solving skills
- Physically able to lift and move equipment
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience building Microsoft Windows 11 devices
- Experience of stock/asset management
- Experience with an IT support ticketing system
- Familiarity with SCCM/Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot
- Recent experience in desktop IT support (Windows 11, smartphones)
- Full driving licence
Working Location
Winchester (The Castle), with possible onsite work.
