Software Engineer - Java

Our client, a growing technology consultancy supporting public sector transformation, is looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join their collaborative and high-impact team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a major national programme by developing and integrating secure software systems used across government and defence. This role will require 1-2 days per week onsite in Milton Keynes, with the remainder remote.

Responsibilities:* Design, build and test complex full-stack applications using Java and React* Develop secure software solutions, integrating open-source and proprietary technologies* Contribute to API design and system architecture for private cloud and air-gapped environments* Work closely with end-users, solution architects and academic partners to deliver user-focused systems* Implement DevOps practices including containerisation (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines* Support software deployments in both internal and client environments* Produce well-documented, testable code and maintain strong configuration control

What we're looking for:* Strong experience in back-end development, ideally with Java and/or Python* Front-end development experience using JavaScript and React* Good knowledge of relational databases and both Linux and Microsoft environments* Familiarity with secure DevOps principles and containerisation tools (e.g. Docker)* Confident communicator with strong documentation and solution design skills* Analytical mindset with demonstrable experience solving complex problems* Degree in a technical or numerate discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering

Desirable experience:* Previous experience in public sector, local government or national security projects* Exposure to Scaled Agile frameworks* Active or eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC), with UK nationality essential* Understanding of AI or GPU-accelerated solutions
