Cyber Essentials Project Engineer
Role Overview
The position of Cyber Essentials Project Engineer is suited to a junior or developing engineer with practical experience of Microsoft 365, Windows endpoints and customer-facing IT support. Experience within a managed service provider (MSP) or another multi-customer technical environment would be advantageous.
Working as part of a small team, the contractor will help existing customers prepare for Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus assessment. The role is focused on technical readiness and remediation rather than carrying out the certification or acting as an assessor.
Using established processes, tools, checklists and documentation, the Cyber Essentials Project Engineer will gather technical information, identify gaps, complete agreed remediation activities, maintain accurate records and support customers through to assessment. Guidance and escalation support will be available from senior colleagues where work falls outside the agreed process or level of responsibility.
Responsibilities:- Support customers in preparing for Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus assessments using established processes and documentation.
- Gather information about customer IT environments and maintain accurate project records.
- Identify gaps against Cyber Essentials requirements and recommend or complete approved remediation activities.
- Review Microsoft 365, Windows devices, user accounts, patching, endpoint protection and device management configurations.
- Work with customers to resolve non-compliant settings and improve security posture.
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers when required.
- Assist customers through to assessment readiness and provide regular progress updates.
Requirements:
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and Windows environments.
- Good understanding of endpoint security, patch management and user access controls.
- Experience working in a customer-facing IT support or project role.
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
- Ability to follow established processes and work independently.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Experience working within an MSP environment.
- Exposure to Microsoft Intune, Entra ID and Microsoft Defender.
- Familiarity with Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus projects.
- Entry-level Microsoft certifications desirable
