Head of Product

In Brief

We are a growing healthtech company running a telemedicine platform and a portfolio of technology-enabled clinical services for the NHS. Our products support clinicians and patients by improving access to specialist advice and reducing pressure on frontline services.

As we continue to scale, we are looking for a Head of Product to bring greater clarity, consistency, and impact to how we build and evolve our products.

Contract type: Permanent

Hours of work: Full Time, Flexible

Place of work: Remote (UK-based) with travel to Oxford approximately 1-2 times per month

The Role

This is a senior leadership role responsible for setting product strategy and direction and building a high-performing, empowered product team.

You will lead a small team of Product Managers, helping them get closer to users, make better decisions, and continuously improve their craft. Rather than being the person who makes every decision or owns all discovery, your focus will be on creating the environment, context, and capability for the team to succeed.

You will work closely with engineering, clinical, commercial, and delivery teams to align priorities and ensure we are building products that deliver real value to NHS users and patients.

This role operates at the highest level, reporting to the Managing Director for Growth and participating as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Your Mission

Over the next 6-12 months you will, amongst other activities:

  • Define the product vision and strategy for our products and services
  • Evolve our approach towards more consistent, scalable product practices
  • Enable Product Managers to own discovery, decision-making, and outcomes
  • Strengthen how we prioritise, measure, and communicate product impact
  • Identify practical opportunities to apply new technologies (including AI) to improve clinical and operational outcomes

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy

  • Define and evolve a clear product strategy aligned with internal teams, company goals and NHS needs
  • Guide the development of a coherent, prioritised roadmap across multiple products and services
  • Ensure alignment with NHS frameworks, interoperability standards, and regulatory requirements

Team Leadership & Ways of Working

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of Product Managers
  • Coach PMs on discovery, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making
  • Establish simple, effective product practices without adding unnecessary process
  • Create a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement

Customer & NHS Insight

  • Ensure the team builds strong relationships with clinicians, managers, and commissioners
  • Support PMs in getting close to users and understanding real-world workflows and challenges
  • Translate NHS policy, incentives, and constraints into actionable product direction

Delivery & Execution

  • Ensure strategy is translated into realistic, outcome-focused plans
  • Support teams in making effective prioritisation decisions and trade-offs
  • Maintain a balance between speed, safety, and stakeholder needs in a regulated environment

Impact & Growth

  • Define and track meaningful product outcomes (clinical, operational, and commercial)
  • Partner with commercial and customer teams to support growth and adoption
  • Contribute to thought leadership and credible product positioning in the NHS market

What Success Looks Like (12 months)

  • A clear, well-communicated product strategy understood across the business
  • Product Managers confidently owning their areas, making informed decisions, and engaging directly with users
  • Consistent and effective product ways of working across the team
  • Strong alignment between product, engineering, clinical, and commercial teams
  • Measurable improvements in product impact and client-led success metrics

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrable senior experience in product management, including leading and developing teams of Product Managers
  • Deep understanding of the NHS landscape - including data standards, digital transformation agendas, key stakeholders and key decision makers.
  • Strong product fundamentals: strategy, prioritisation, discovery, and outcome-focused delivery
  • Proven ability to empower teams and avoid becoming a decision-making bottleneck
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and helping teams navigate it

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with clinical workflows (e.g. referrals, triage, demand management)
  • Experience in regulated environments (e.g. DSPT, GDPR, clinical safety requirements)
  • Experience applying AI or data-driven approaches in real-world product settings
  • Experience in a start-up or scale-up environment

How You Work

  • You build empowered teams rather than making all decisions yourself
  • You coach and develop Product Managers to improve their craft
  • You bring structure and clarity without overcomplicating processes
  • You are pragmatic, outcome-focused, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • You collaborate effectively across disciplines and levels of seniority
