Infrastructure Engineer

Job summary

Provide expert 3rd line technical support, investigating and resolving complex infrastructure issues. Monitor server, network, and cloud services to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability. Install, maintain, and optimise Azure and on-premises server environments. Support and develop network infrastructure, ensuring secure and effective connectivity across the organisation. Implement security updates, patches, and remediation activities to maintain a secure IT environment. Conduct vulnerability assessments and support remediation plans to reduce infrastructure risks. Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to deliver infrastructure projects and service improvements. Perform root cause analysis for major incidents and contribute to preventative measures. Ensure IT services, systems, and processes meet operational standards, compliance requirements, and future business needs.

Main duties of the job

Proven experience working in a 3rd line IT Infrastructure Engineer or similar infrastructure support role. Strong experience supporting Microsoft Azure, VMware virtualisation, and enterprise server environments. Knowledge of Windows Server and Linux operating systems, including administration and troubleshooting. Solid understanding of networking technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and SD-WAN environments. Experience managing Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and Intune. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience performing root cause analysis and driving service improvements. Experience with scripting and automation tools, such as PowerShell, together with excellent organisational and time-management skills. Desirable Microsoft Azure Administrator, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator, CCNA, or similar certifications. Experience using infrastructure monitoring and vulnerability management tools. Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, or NIST. Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions including Veeam and Azure Backup.

We are looking for a skilled and proactive IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our IM&T team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional to play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our IT environment, ensuring the stability, security, and performance of critical systems and services. As a senior technical escalation point, you will provide 3rd line support, manage both cloud and on-premises infrastructure, and work closely with colleagues to deliver infrastructure projects and continuous service improvements. You'll have the opportunity to work with a diverse technology estate including Azure, VMware, Microsoft 365, Windows and Linux servers, and enterprise networking technologies.
