As a Senior Systems Support Specialist for clinical applications, you will play a vital role in providing technical administration, configuration/development and support for one or more of the Trust's Clinical IT systems.

We are able to offer flexible/hybrid working with the ability to be based at one of several sites across County Durham, including at locations in Darlington and Peterlee.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with our IT teams and end-users, you will ensure the reliable operation, configuration/development and support of a portfolio of clinical systems, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

You will need to be customer focused, pro-active, possess strong communication skills, confident IT skills and have a strong work ethic. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team, committed to working together in developing and supporting our clinical services.

The successful candidate will meet the criteria published within the Job Description and Personal specification and you will ideally have demonstrable experience within a system support environment, with a drive for continued professional development.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will report directly to a Systems Manager and work in close association with the team of Senior Systems Support Specialists, Systems Support Analysts and Systems Support Administrators.

You will be supporting, administering, developing and configuring clinical IT systems, reviewing requests and incidents and supporting end users on the systems you are assigned to support.

Duties will include:

Developing and maintaining policies and procedural system documentation

Provision of proactive user technical support, identifying, analysing, recording and resolving users issues and offering appropriate help and guidance

Administering and enhancing systems and operations when identified

Monitoring the systems using error logs and statistics as required, and take corrective actions

Updating and configuring systems in an accurate and timely fashion

Maintaining system software, and when required, system hardware

  • Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post

Special Skills & Knowledge

Essential
  • Demonstrable skills in the use of software and software development tools.
  • In-depth experience of working in an IT or software support role.
  • Knowledge of data analysis techniques and tools.
  • Ability to analyse data from different sources and correlate discrepancies and outputs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and also under own initiative.
  • Planning, prioritisation and organisational skills to deal with a broad range of complex on-going activities.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex technical information to staff at all levels, both specialists and non-specialists in writing, over the telephone and at meetings.
Desirable
  • Understanding of the application of modern IT solutions.
  • Skills in Structured Query Language(s) SQL or similar.

  • Experience in a technical or IT role
  • Experience with computer systems and software to allow configuration changes to be managed through thorough controlled procedures and testing.
  • Experience of dealing with systematic and process issues, analysing complex data to report back to both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Customer Service Experience or experience in a customer facing role delivering resolutions to customer issues.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree in computer science, IT or related discipline
