Full Stack Developer — Digital Health (Remote, UK)
Who we are? Cowlabs is a multi-product studio. Our team creates successful products from scratch combining technical expertise, business experience, and a rich network of innovators. We build consumer-oriented software products that users love. One of our portfolio ventures — a digital health platform helping people take control of their personal health records and medical history — is hiring its next Full Stack Developer.
Who are we looking for? We are looking for someone who loves coding and can do "anything", because you are equally excited about making stuff as you are good at it. From crunching bits to optimising database queries, adding that extra juicy transition in UIs, spinning up a scalable infrastructure to optimising data storage and retrieval. It is all just coding, right?
As a Full Stack Developer you:
- Love working across layers, languages, and platforms.
- Are capable of building production-ready applications.
- Prioritise user experience and balance rapid development with future scalability.
- Care about how data is handled — you understand that "owned by the user" is a technical commitment, not just a marketing line.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools like Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor as a force multiplier, not a crutch.
We prioritise hardcore skills, curiosity, and a natural ability to get things done, rather than formal education or years of experience. If you have ever built your own startup, regardless of the outcome, that's a huge plus!
What will you do? As an early team member, you'll have a significant influence on the tech stack and overall approach. The current stack is TypeScript top to bottom with Node, NextJS and React on Vercel for web, combined with Expo/React Native for mobile. The product is hosted in Switzerland on Exoscale and Infomaniak, which shapes some of our architecture decisions in interesting ways. We get extra excited if you have direct experience from using this or similar stacks in live customer-facing projects.
You'll be responsible for:
- Building and deploying end-to-end features on mobile and web platforms.
- Shaping day-to-day operations and the development team's workflow.
- Helping decide what to build, not just how to build it.
Where and how will you work? This full-time position offers adequate startup compensation in your preferred currency and share options. Remote and UK-based, with travel to Switzerland when needed (covered).
The opportunity This venture is on a path toward spinning out from the studio as an independent company. For the right candidate, there's a clear path to becoming a senior technical leader — CTO — of the spinout, should both you and the venture want that. We're hiring someone we'd be excited to back into that role, not just fill the seat today.
