Finance Systems Officer

Finance Systems and Control Officer

Salary: up to £38,000 per annum (Grade 6)

Location: Maidenhead, Berkshire

Working Pattern: Hybrid working, with just one day per week or two days per fortnight in the office

Shape the systems that support financial services across one of the country's most attractive local authorities.

This Council is a forward-looking council with a strong commitment to delivering excellent services for residents, businesses and communities.

They are now seeking a Systems and Control Officer to join their Finance Systems team, supporting the systems, processes and controls that underpin financial management across the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with systems, solving problems and supporting users. Sitting within the Financial Reporting & Control team, you will play a key role in the day-to-day administration, maintenance and continuous improvement of their Unit4 finance system and associated income management processes.

Whether you currently work in finance systems, ERP administration, application support or a similar systems-focused environment, this role offers the opportunity to develop specialist expertise whilst working closely with finance professionals and service teams across the Council.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Financial Reporting & Control, you will help ensure the effective operation of the Council's finance systems, supporting users and maintaining the integrity of financial data and controls.

You will be involved in a broad range of activities including:

  • Supporting the administration and operation of Unit4 and associated income systems
  • Managing user access, system configuration and data maintenance activities
  • Supporting system interfaces and data uploads
  • Investigating and resolving user queries and support tickets
  • Assisting with system testing, upgrades and enhancements
  • Producing reports and supporting the maintenance of financial control processes
  • Working closely with technical accountants, finance colleagues and service users across the organisation
  • Helping identify opportunities to improve system functionality, processes and user experience

The role offers excellent exposure across the Council and the opportunity to become a key member of a specialist team responsible for maintaining critical business systems.

About You

We are looking for an organised and methodical individual who enjoys working with systems and supporting colleagues to make the most of technology.

You may already be working in:

  • Finance systems administration
  • ERP or application support
  • Systems control or systems administration
  • A finance or business support role with significant systems responsibilities
  • A local government, public sector or corporate systems environment

Most importantly, you will demonstrate:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining robust controls
  • Confidence supporting users and resolving queries
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively with stakeholders
  • A proactive approach to improving systems and processes

Experience of Unit4 would be advantageous, although we welcome applications from candidates with experience of other enterprise systems and transferable skills.

Whilst the role sits within Finance, this is not a traditional accounting position. We are particularly interested in candidates with a genuine interest in systems, processes and controls, and we welcome applications from those looking to develop a long-term career in finance systems.

Why Join?

This local authority recognise that their people are their greatest asset and are committed to providing a supportive environment where colleagues can develop and thrive.

In return, they offer:

  • Salary progression to £43,000 for exceptional candidates
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements
  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • A supportive and collaborative culture
  • The chance to develop specialist expertise in a critical business systems environment

Apply

If you are passionate about systems, enjoy solving problems and want to play a key role in supporting and improving the technology that underpins financial services, we would love to hear from you.
