Technical Project Engineer

Our client a process solutions company is currently looking to hire a motivated Technical Project Engineer to support the delivery of projects for their pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical clients and suppliers.

This position will report to the Process Validation Manager, the Technical Project Engineer takes an overall lead on practical project management & engineering, and validation related activities for technical projects such as system revamps, hardware and software upgrades, equipment modifications, process improvements, and process development.

This same project excellence is also required for strategic new equipment projects. This is delivered by direct management and delegation of specific work packages or tasks where necessary.

The Technical Project Engineer also plays a key role in technical project sales – It is expected that this individual will identify, appraise, estimate, and lead conversations relating to the same upgrades, modifications, improvements, and services the company can supply.

The successful candidate will be a driven individual who can collaborate effectively as part of a team while also working safely, competently, and independently.

Process Validation Manager, Commissioning Manager, Projects Director, C&Q Team, Customers (all), Suppliers (all)

Primary Responsibilities

· Project Management.

· Liaise between all parties during equipment build/upgrade works so that agreed timescales are respected, all parties are kept aware of the progress achieved and planned.

· Perform technical reviews of URS and other specifications post sale in the creation of project documentation and clarification of post-sale queries.

· Coordinate & take part in internal and external design reviews, DQ, HAZOP and site meetings where required.

· Author, review and be responsible for project lifecycle GMP/validation documentation – technical writing is a core skill.

· Contract management – clearly understand the commercial aspects of each assigned project and liaise with contract managers, suppliers and customers to ensure on time completion.

· Keep track of all aspects of the project from documentation issue and review, to FAT punch list close out and project sitework final de-snagging and completion.

· Act as direct customer support during the project.

· Take part in routine project department meetings reviewing the weeks work, updating schedules.

· Mentoring, coaching and supporting your peers with project management and technical writing.

· Proactively support site work planning with customers, suppliers and 3rd parties to ensure all stakeholders are aligned.

· Ensure responsibilities of all parties (the company, customers, suppliers and 3rd parties) are understood and respected.

· Reinforce these as necessary throughout the project lifecycle and escalate any concerns as necessary.

· Understand the total project delivery from the customers side, help identify and highlight:

· Any added value that the company can bring by way of increased scope to the client

· Any overall omissions that will affect either our project delivery or the customer’s overall project.

· Ensure adequate and continual handover of information, both documented and general understanding to other companies teams.

· Attend and execute equipment testing at our suppliers and customer sites as required.

· With the Projects Director, strategically identify & plan commercial visits relating to technical upgrades and process improvements to our Customers (expected travel in this role is approximately 25% of time).

· Technically survey, assess & estimate identified opportunities (mechanically, electrically and process wise).

· Any other tasks as may be required.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • An engineering, technology, or science qualification (degree or equivalent) would be expected
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with commonly used computer programs. These include MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project (working experience of CAD packages would be useful)
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to travel throughout UK, Ireland and Italy as required
  • Full clean driving license and use of their own car .
