Staff Software Engineer – Drive Scalable Systems at Real-World Impact

We’re partnering with a fast-growing, technology-driven business tackling complex, real-world challenges through modern engineering.
They’re now looking for a Staff Engineer to take a leading role in shaping technical direction, driving architectural decisions, and delivering high-impact, cross-service solutions across a distributed platform.
What you’ll be doing:
- Setting technical direction and leading the design of complex, scalable systems across multiple services
- Owning architecture decisions and balancing trade-offs across performance, reliability, and cost
- Driving best practices across testing, security, observability, and overall engineering quality
- Leading delivery across teams, navigating ambiguity, and ensuring consistent, high-quality outcomes
- Taking ownership of services in production, improving performance, resilience, and scalability
- Mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering standards across the organisation
- Partnering closely with Product, Data, and Design to shape roadmap and technical strategy
What they’re looking for:
- Strong background in designing scalable, distributed systems with clear ownership and boundaries
- Proven experience operating at a Staff level, influencing architecture and technical direction across teams
- Deep expertise in reliability, observability, and production systems at scale
- Security-first mindset with experience identifying and mitigating risks
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
- Python experience preferred (open to similar languages)
- Hands-on experience with AWS (GCP/Azure also considered)
- BSc in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)

Location: London (Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite)
Salary: Up to £130,000
