Job summary
Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Network) Band 7, Full Time, Permanent The Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Network) at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust is responsible for:
Delivered and maintained secure, high-performing digital infrastructure across acute and community sites for Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.
Managed servers, and storage, ensuring compliance with NHS security standards and DSPT Toolkit requirements.
Resolved complex technical issues within agreed SLAs, minimizing downtime through proactive monitoring and alerting systems.
Led and support technical projects, contributing specialist expertise in server, networking, telecoms, or architecture domains.
Supervise and develop infrastructure engineers, ensuring effective team coverage and operational continuity.
Collaborated with internal and external stakeholders, including Croydon Council, NHS Trusts, and Clinical Commissioning Groups.
Participated in on-call rota to provide critical out-of-hours support for infrastructure incidents and service continuity.

Main duties of the job
Management Responsibilities
Lead delivery of infrastructure objectives and acted as lead specialist for servers and storage.
Supported development and implementation of BCP and Digital Infrastructure strategies.
Manage day-to-day infrastructure tools and systems
Liaise with internal/external stakeholders
Oversee risk identification and mitigation, and alert senior management
Direct recovery efforts during major infrastructure incidents and lead service improvement programmes.
Train technical staff, conduct performance reviews, and develop training programmes.
Contribute to strategic planning for servers and storage within the infrastructure team.
Operational Responsibilities
Delivered infrastructure services in line with SLAs, ensuring maximum system availability and resilience.
Managed configuration, patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting of server hardware/software.
Implemented data backup strategies and ensure recovery of systems and data.
Monitored system performance and capacity, reporting findings and lead proactive improvements.
Ensured compliance with security standards and responded to NHS CareCERT
Oversee change management process
Additional Responsibilities
Managed financial and physical resources of infrastructure assets.
Conducted RCA and develop solutions for complex technical issues.
Lead infrastructure-related projects
Communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders
Researched emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience of working in a computer-based discipline or relevant subject
- Substantial in-depth technical knowledge of Networks
- Appropriate certificated vendor training on maintaining associated Networking Equipment
- ITIL Foundation qualification
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Networking qualification
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- A high level of communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to a non-technical audience
- Able to prioritise workload in response to changing demands
- Knowledge of SD-WAN,Wifi,NAC
- Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and messaging systems.
- Documentation skills to a high standard
- Experience of Server, Telecoms and Architecture
- Experience of Extreme Networks
- Configuration and support of Palo alto firewalls.
- Knowledge of the configuration and support for Load Balancers
Experience
- Managment of a team
- Significant experience in effectively supporting a large scale, complex environment
- Experience of working with thin client infrastructure and technologies

- Good knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and messaging systems
- Experience with Microsoft Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 and Active Directory
