Embedded Software Designer

Embedded Software Designer | East Yorkshire | Office Based £38,000 - £45,000

A well-established UK manufacturer is looking to add an Embedded Software Designer to its engineering team. This is a full-time, office-based role working directly with hardware and production teams on-site.

The role
You will be responsible for embedded software development across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to release and testing. This includes:
  • Embedded software design and development from specification through to final code
  • Prototype and proof-of-concept development
  • System testing, debugging and performance evaluation
  • Working closely with electronics and hardware engineers on design and improvements
  • Input into microcontroller selection and system architecture decisions
  • Supporting interface design where required (UI / embedded displays / control panels)
  • Developing and improving engineering processes and workflows
  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers when needed
Projects and products
You will work on a range of new product development projects across connected and control systems, including:
  • IoT-enabled devices
  • Control panels and user interfaces
  • Power control and distribution systems
  • Wireless communication systems (e.g. Bluetooth, LoRa and similar technologies)
What we are looking for
  • Degree in Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or similar, or equivalent experience
  • Strong background in embedded software development
  • Experience with tools such as Atmel Studio, VS Code, ESP-IDF, Eclipse or similar
  • Ability to take a product from concept through to production
  • Comfortable working closely with hardware engineers
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desirable:
  • Interest or experience in UI / interface design
  • Experience working on connected or IoT products
Working environment
You will be part of a small, experienced design team within a larger engineering business (approx. 140 staff). The role is based fully on-site with access to lab and production facilities.
Hours
  • Monday to Thursday: 07:45 - 17:00
  • Friday: 07:45 - 12:45
  • 39 hours per week
