Clinical Pharmacy Technician - Digital Medicines Systems

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacy technician with a passion for digital healthcare and improving medicines safety, workflow efficiency and patient outcomes through digital innovation. The role will also involve direct patient care with opportunities to develop your clinical knowledge and skills.

We welcome applications from registered pharmacy technician colleagues working in all sectors of the profession. Prior experience working in mental health is not required as a comprehensive programme of training and clinical supervision will be provided.

We provide pharmacy and medicines optimisation services to all of our mental health, learning disability and neuro-rehabilitation inpatient areas, as well as to community teams, Clozapine clinics and crisis teams. Our Pharmacy staff are highly regarded as valued members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

  • System administrator support within Pharmacy for digital medicines systems, including ePMA, automated drug cabinets (ADCs) and other programs.
  • Assisting with the development and organisation of training of all staff required to use the ePMA system including medical, nursing and pharmacy staff and other digital systems.
  • Working with the Clinical Safety Officers to assure the Trust that the ePMA and other digital systems minimise clinical risk and complies with legislative and governance requirements.
  • Analysing and understanding complex data, relating to ePMA and other medicines systems, that can be used to inform and enhance user performance and improve patient safety.
  • Assisting with the clinical and operational services to provide patient-centred care.

Operational support to the dispensing services at the main hospital sites at St Nicholas hospital by performing regular accuracy checking slots in the department and out on the wards.

There will be potential flexibility in site working but there is an expectation to work at St Nicholas Hospital at least weekly.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential
  • Registered pharmacy technician with the UK General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician with post qualification experience (equivalent to NVQ3/BTEC or Level 3 Apprenticeship PTPT).
  • Accredited checking technician
  • Up-to-date CPD record
Desirable
  • Knowledge of informatics and reporting techniques
  • Knowledge of TAG ePMA, Optum (ASCribe), Omnicell
  • Completion of relevant NHS England Medicines Management Course modules

Knowledge and Experience

Essential
  • Knowledge of a pharmacy dispensary environment and the day-to-day tasks involved
  • Clinical experience of working in ward based environments
  • Well-developed knowledge of pharmacy IT systems
  • Demonstrable ability to present complex or sensitive information to multidisciplinary groups
  • High level of computer literacy
Desirable
  • System change management and project management
  • Experience of supervising/managing staff
