Information Governance Compliance Officer

Job summary

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Information Governance & Medico Legal Team at St Nicholas Hospital as an Information Governance Compliance Officer (Band 5). This is a permanent full-time position (37.5 hours per week).

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join our busy and dynamic team. The successful candidate will have experience working within an Information Governance, compliance, records management, or related information role, together with the ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced environment. Applicants should possess excellent organisational and communication skills, a high standard of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels. A proactive, professional, and approachable attitude, alongside knowledge of Information Governance standards and NHS information management practices, is essential

Education and Qualification

Essential
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in the field of Information Governance Management

Knowledge and Experience

Essential
  • Knowledge of NHS Information Governance, Caldicott requirements, patient confidentiality, UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, Common Law Duty of Confidentiality, Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations, NHS DSPT, NHS Records Management Code of Practice, Data Protection Impact Assessments and Information Sharing Agreements.
  • Experience supporting data subject rights requests, FOIA/EIR requests, information governance incidents, DPIAs, information sharing governance and DSPT evidence collation.
  • Knowledge of cyber security and data security requirements relevant to NHS organisations, including information risk management and appropriate technical and organisational controls.
  • Significant experience working in an Information role
  • General experience of supporting Information projects
  • General experience of supporting and assisting the NHS Information Governance Standard
  • General experience of document management

Skills and Competencies

Essential
  • Skilled use of IT equipment and software including the Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to analyse and review documentation content, and the use of own judgement in the selection of appropriate wording
  • Ability to work effectively, independently, or as part of a team
