Apprenticeship - Information Technology Support Associate level 3

The IT Apprentice role is a developmental position within the Darlington IT department. The working hours are Monday to Friday, with flexibility to suit business needs. On completion of this apprenticeship, Level 3- Information’s Communications Technician qualification.

Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic IT Apprentice to join our team specializing in Information Technology for Engine Business Segment in Darlington, UK. You’ll be based at our Darlington Engine Plant (DEP), a vibrant, large-scale manufacturing campus that’s home to over 1,500 employees, including both office professionals and skilled operators supporting our advanced engine assembly lines. During your apprenticeship with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to begin building your career in IT and power your potential!

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Supporting small-scale IT projects and initiatives from gathering requirements, process flow mapping and data collection through to testing, implementation, and user adoption, helping improve departmental efficiency and user experience
  • Supporting and deploying IT equipment including deploying hardware, configuring software, and troubleshooting issues across office, warehouse, and shop floor environments while following relevant procedures
  • Providing first-line IT support to business usersthrough both face-to-face and remote support activities, helping resolve technical issues, support customer requirements, and ensure a positive user experience
  • Driving process improvements to streamline business processes, contribute to improved service delivery, and identify opportunities for operational improvement
  • Gaining hands-on experience with enterprise & manufacturing systems supporting real-time business and manufacturing operations while developing an understanding of ICT security, professional practice, and data protection
  • Developing technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills using structured fault-finding techniques, process flow mapping, data collection and analysis, root cause investigation, and maintaining support records to support effective issue resolution and continuous improvement

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • GCSEs including math’s, English and Science at Grade 7 or above, all other subjects at 4/C or above, this is essential
  • A-Levels at grade c or above in IT or Computer science is desirable
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital tools, with an interest in hardware, software, troubleshooting, customer support, data and emerging technologies such as AI
  • Good communication skills, attention to detail and ability to work safely and responsibly both independently and as part of a team
  • Positive, professional and curious approach, with a willingness to learn and build confidence in a large manufacturing and enterprise IT environment
  • Requires relevant IT experience or skills obtained through education, training, personal interest or on-the-job experience

Training

During the apprenticeship you will work 4 days per week onsite, inclusive of 1 day per week for study with your college/training provider.
