The Assistant Team Lead / Team Lead for Commercial Direct Sales is a dynamic and people-centred leader who drives performance while building an innovative, intrapreneurial, and continuous-learning culture. You will lead a team across the full sales lifecycle, supporting Business Development Executives to excel through coaching, capability building, and disciplined execution. You will champion data-driven decision-making, innovation and customer-centric solution selling to achieve ambitious revenue goals.
In This Role, You Will
People Leadership & Line Management
  • Directly lead, coach, and support a team of Business Development Executives to achieve and surpass individual and departmental targets.
  • Provide regular, high-quality feedback, conduct 121s, and ensure ongoing skills development through coaching, shadowing, and structured learning plans.
  • Create an inclusive team environment where individuals feel safe to learn, innovate, take smart risks, and challenge the status quo.
  • Lead performance management processes including goal-setting, mid-year and annual appraisals, performance conversations, and career development planning.
  • Identify skill gaps and proactively build team capability through training, mentoring, and sharing best practices.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new team members to ensure rapid ramp-up and long-term success.
  • Manage wellbeing, psychological safety, and team engagement, monitoring morale and proactively addressing issues.
Operational & Sales Excellence
  • Oversee and support the full sales lifecycle, ensuring consistent execution of solution-selling methodologies and customer-centric approaches.
  • Drive pipeline discipline by monitoring, validating, and coaching reps on pipeline accuracy, stage progression, and forecasting.
  • Prepare accurate revenue forecasts and weekly/monthly pipeline reports to inform business planning.
  • Review and analyse sales performance metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Monitor sales activity within internal systems, ensuring high data accuracy and actionable insights.
Intrapreneurship, Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to innovate, optimise processes, and introduce new approaches to improve conversion rates, productivity, and customer experience.
  • Encourage the team to experiment, learn quickly, and share insights across the department.
  • Lead small-scale strategic or cross-functional projects that improve team effectiveness or support broader commercial objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Product, Customer Success, and Operations to share customer insights, improve go-to-market strategies, and influence product roadmap decisions.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers across target accounts.
  • Support team members in navigating complex customer interactions, negotiations, and high-value opportunities.
  • Ensure exceptional customer experience from first contact through close, maintaining Cvent's reputation as a trusted partner.
General
Carry out additional duties as assigned in support of broader team and organisational goals.
Here's What You Need
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven success in a revenue-generating software sales role.
  • Preferred industry experience in SaaS, mobile applications, analytics, or related software environments.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise, manage multiple tasks, and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in consultative selling, cold calling, product demonstrations, contract negotiation, and understanding product functionality and workflows.
  • High level of initiative, ownership, and self-leadership; able to work independently while contributing positively to team outcomes.
  • Strong business acumen, high ethical standards, and integrity.
