We are looking for an experienced D365 Project Operations Functional Architect to lead the design, governance, and optimization of end-to-end project lifecycle processes using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations.
This role will work closely with sales, delivery, finance, procurement, and executive stakeholders to align project operations with business outcomes. The ideal candidate will bring strong functional architecture experience and multiple end-to-end implementations in project-centric environments.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Process Design
- Own and define the end-to-end functional architecture for Dynamics 365 Project Operations.
- Design processes across the complete project lifecycle including project sales, estimation, pricing, costing, WBS planning, scheduling, resource management, budgeting, procurement, time & expense, invoicing, and revenue recognition.
- Conduct fit-gap analysis and drive standardization of global project delivery templates.
- Ensure alignment with Microsoft best practices and extension model.
Design Governance
- Lead design authority discussions and review functional design documents (FRD/BRD).
- Enforce configuration-first approach with minimal customization.
- Approve integration designs between Project Operations, Finance, SCM, HR systems, and reporting solutions.
- Govern pricing models, rate cards, costing structures, and project accounting frameworks.
Stakeholder Leadership
- Facilitate workshops with CXOs, PMO teams, Sales, Delivery, Finance, and Procurement stakeholders.
- Translate business goals into a Project Operations transformation roadmap.
- Collaborate with technical teams working with APIs, Dataverse, OData, and Power Platform.
Delivery & Implementation Oversight
- Oversee CRP, UAT, Go-Live readiness, and Hypercare support.
- Define cutover strategies for projects, forecasts, WBS, budgets, resource schedules, and transactions.
- Ensure project accounting alignment with GL postings, subledger accounting, and revenue recognition schedules.
Compliance & Governance
- Implement internal controls for project budgeting, cost tracking, subcontracting, billing, and revenue recognition.
- Ensure compliance with audit, statutory requirements, tax, e-invoicing, and segregation of duties (SoD).
- Maintain strong data governance and financial integrity across project processes.
Enablement & Change Management
- Develop process documentation, SOPs, and training programs for project teams.
- Mentor functional consultants and SMEs across Project Operations capabilities.
- Drive continuous improvement through KPI tracking and operational insights.
Required Experience
- 10–12 years of experience in project operations, professional services, or project-based organizations.
- Experience in 2–3 end-to-end implementations of Project Operations / PSA platforms.
- Proven experience as a Functional Architect, Process Consultant, or Lead Functional SME.
- Strong understanding of complete project lifecycle processes from opportunity to project closure and financial reconciliation.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on configuration experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations.
- Expertise in pricing, costing, WBS, scheduling, resource management, budgeting, procurement, invoicing, and revenue recognition.
- Strong understanding of project accounting concepts including margin analysis and cost accumulation.
- Experience working with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate).
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
