Location: Manchester, United Kingdom (Hybrid/Flexible Working Options)Salary Range: £70000- 80000 per annum (depending on experience)Reporting To: Chief Technology Officer (CTO) / Senior Technical Leadership

A national AI consultancy business who are growing rapidly in Manchester.

Overview

The Lead AI Developer will be responsible for leading the design, development, and deployment of advanced AI solutions. This role demands deep technical expertise in AI and machine learning paired with strong leadership skills to guide and mentor development teams. The successful candidate will manage AI projects end-to-end ,from architecture through to production, ensuring delivery of saleable, robust, and business aligned AI systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of AI-driven applications, models, and systems aligned with business objectives.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentoring, and support to AI engineers and data scientists.
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, data teams, and stakeholders to translate business goals into AI solutions.
  • Architect scalable and maintainable AI infrastructure, managing model deployment, continuous monitoring, and lifecycle.
  • Drive innovation by researching and integrating emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and best practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 6+ years' experience in AI development, machine learning engineering, or closely related fields.
  • Proven track record of leading AI projects through all phases, including design, development, and production deployment.
  • Proficiency with machine learning frameworks
  • Strong programming skills in Python; familiarity with cloud AI platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience with MLOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines for AI models, monitoring, and version control.
  • Deep understanding of AI algorithms

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth, or regulated industry environments.
  • Previous leadership of multidisciplinary AI development teams.
