The Opportunity
We are supporting a specialist organisation within the marine technology and advanced electronics sector who are looking for an experienced Electronics Repair Technician to join their manufacturing and repair operation at Blackbushe.
This is a hands-on position focused on the testing, diagnosis and repair of electronic equipment, working from component and PCB level through to chassis and final assembly.
The successful candidate will need strong practical electronics experience, particularly in component-level fault finding, with the ability to diagnose faults using a range of electronic test equipment and technical documentation.
The Role
- Carry out testing, adjustment and repair of electronic products across PCB, chassis and final assembly levels.
- Diagnose faults and carry out component-level fault finding and repair.
- Use electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies and timer/counters.
- Read and interpret circuit diagrams, engineering drawings and assembly drawings.
- Identify specification, manufacturing or design issues and escalate these appropriately.
- Carry out re-testing following repair to confirm equipment meets the required specification.
- Maintain accurate repair, test and production records.
- Use ERP and company systems to support repair and manufacturing activities.
- Assist other technicians with repair and testing activities when required.
- Liaise with relevant internal teams regarding repair requirements and, where required, support the preparation of repair quotations.
- Follow established quality procedures, production requirements and safe working practices.
- Highlight recurring faults or potential design/specification issues to the appropriate engineering or supervisory team.
- Support continuous improvement and good working practices within the repair and test environment.
The Candidate
We are looking for a practical electronics technician who is confident diagnosing faults rather than simply carrying out functional testing.
Essential
- HNC in Electronics or an equivalent electronic qualification.
- Hands-on experience within an electronics testing, repair or manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience of fault finding down to component level.
- Experience testing and diagnosing PCBs and electronic assemblies.
- Competent using electronic test equipment, including:
- Oscilloscopes
- Digital multimeters
- Power supplies
- Timer/counters
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Circuit diagrams
- Engineering drawings
- Assembly drawings
- Technical specifications
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic ability.
- Competent with Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Previous experience repairing electronic equipment or PCBs.
- Experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience working within marine, defence, aerospace, instrumentation or other high-reliability electronics sectors.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Experience identifying and reporting design or specification issues.
- Experience supporting customer repairs or repair quotations.
Candidates whose experience is primarily electrical installation, electrical maintenance, wiring or PLC/control systems, without strong PCB and component-level electronics experience, are unlikely to be suitable.
