A high-growth tech company working at the forefront of AI, robotics, and autonomous systems is searching for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead the development of next-generation safety-critical technologies. About the RoleYou will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering cutting-edge assurance systems for AI-driven and autonomous platforms, with an initial focus on UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems). You'll define engineering strategy, oversee system architecture and software development, and ensure high-quality delivery in line with strict industry and regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in safety-critical, regulated environments and thrives in a fast-moving start-up setting.
What You'll Do- Provide technical and strategic leadership across all engineering teams.
- Define and own the engineering roadmap, balancing innovation with compliance.
- Establish and manage engineering processes across systems engineering, software development, V&V, and safety assurance.
- Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team.
- Oversee integration of R&D outputs into production-ready systems.
- Lead technical risk management and quality assurance initiatives.
- Represent engineering in customer discussions, technical reviews, and stakeholder sessions.
- Collaborate closely with product, operations, and leadership to align execution with business goals.
- Manage technical documentation, certification, and regulatory submissions.
- Strong background in aerospace or other regulated, safety-critical sectors (defence, medical devices, oil & gas, automotive, etc.).
- Practical experience with recognised safety and compliance standards.
- Deep understanding of designing, building, and scaling reliable software and systems requiring assurance or certification.
- Experience leading and scaling technical teams.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where ownership, adaptability, and hands-on leadership matter.
