Our client is an established technology manufacturer designing and developing sophisticated products that combine software, electronics and integrated systems. Operating within a highly technical environment, they are seeking a Technical Author to support the creation of high-quality documentation for a diverse range of advanced products and solutions.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative engineering environment where you will work closely with technical specialists and multidisciplinary teams to create clear, accurate and user-focused documentation for complex systems.

The Role

As Technical Author, you will be responsible for producing and maintaining technical documentation supporting a portfolio of hardware and software products. You will work with engineers and subject matter experts to gather information and translate complex concepts into structured, accessible content for both customers and internal users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including:
    • User manuals
    • Installation and configuration guides
    • Operating procedures
    • Service and maintenance documentation
    • Release notes
    • Online help content
    • Knowledge base articles
    • Technical training material
  • Liaise with engineering teams and technical specialists to gather and validate technical information.
  • Convert complex technical information into clear, concise and user-friendly documentation.
  • Develop supporting diagrams, process flows and visual content where required.
  • Ensure consistency, quality and technical accuracy across all documentation.
  • Maintain documentation throughout the product lifecycle, including updates and version control.
  • Support ongoing improvements to documentation standards, processes and best practices.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience within a Technical Author, Technical Writer or similar role.
  • Experience creating documentation for complex technical products, systems or applications.
  • Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical information effectively.
  • Experience working closely with engineers and technical subject matter experts.
  • Experience using documentation tools such as:
    • MadCap Flare
    • FrameMaker
    • Confluence
    • Markdown
    • DITA/XML
    • Similar authoring platforms
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable

  • Experience within engineering, electronics, instrumentation, manufacturing, defence or other technically focused environments.
  • Experience supporting both hardware and software products.
  • Familiarity with version control systems and documentation management processes.
  • Exposure to systems engineering environments.
