Live Event Technician Apprentice

DMX Productions delivers technical production for live events, with particular expertise in video and lighting and the capability to provide integrated audio support. Our work ranges across arena touring, large-scale sporting events, festivals, theatre productions, television and corporate events.

About the Role

This is a practical learning role combining employment with remote study towards the Level 3 Creative Industries Production Technician Apprenticeship (Live Event Technician pathway).

The apprentice will develop broad production skills across video, lighting and audio, with video and lighting forming the principal focus of their day-to-day experience at DMX Productions.

Working in the warehouse and at event sites, the apprentice will support the preparation, installation, operation and de-rig of technical systems.

They will work under appropriate supervision, taking on greater responsibility as their knowledge, competence and confidence develop.

Main duties and responsibilities
Equipment preparation and warehouse support

  • Help prepare, test, clean and safely store video, lighting and audio equipment.
  • Select and assemble equipment using kit lists, technical specifications and plans.
  • Support stock control, basic fault-finding and equipment maintenance under supervision.
  • Assist with truck packs, loading and unloading, and keep warehouse areas clean and organised.

Event-site and show support

  • Assist with installing, configuring, testing and de-rigging technical systems at venues and client sites.
  • Support the build and operation of video systems, including LED, projection and display equipment.
  • Help set up and operate lighting equipment and, as skills develop, lighting control systems.
  • Assist with audio setup, patching, system checks and soundchecks where required.
  • Monitor equipment during rehearsals and events, helping to identify and resolve issues under supervision.
  • Work professionally with colleagues, freelance crew, venue teams and clients.

Safety and professional standards

  • Follow all health and safety requirements, venue rules and safe working procedures.
  • Use PPE correctly and undertake safety-critical work only when appropriately trained, supervised and authorised.
  • Take care of equipment and others, reporting hazards, faults, fatigue or concerns promptly.
  • Be reliable, adaptable and prepared for travel and the varied working patterns associated with live events
