IT Service Designer

Location: Gloucester or Central London - will be on site 5 days per week.

Due to security clearance requirements candidates must be eligible for or currently hold SC or DV. Candidates must be sole UK national/British citizen and resided in the UK for 10 years and over.

The role:

At DXC, one of our platinum accounts has openings for an IT Service Designer. The successful candidate will work within multiple teams and will be enthusiastic and reliable with a positive service-orientated attitude. Your role will include designing, shaping and evolving end-to-end services across both a on-premise hosting environment and an AWS private cloud platform and the services that will serve to integrate both environments. The role ensures that our services are fit for purpose, resilient, secure, cost‐effective and supportable, aligning with business outcomes and our customers’ strategic transition towards cloud-based services and requirement for cloud orchestration and service brokerage models.

Working within a blended Agile and ITIL framework, the Service Designer collaborates closely with DXC and customer product teams, operations, architecture, security and suppliers to ensure that services are designed with operability, supportability, performance, security, compliance and user experience at their core.

\n

Role Responsibilities:

\n

Service Design & Lifecycle Management

\n

    \n
  • \nDesign end‐to‐end IT services across on‐premise and AWS private cloud environments to meet functional and non‐functional requirements.\n
  • \n

  • \nDefine service models, service boundaries, dependencies and integration points.\n
  • \n

  • \nEnsure services are designed across the full-service lifecycle: strategy, design, transition, operation and continual improvement.\n
  • \n

  • \nProduce and maintain service design artefacts including service definitions, service models, service blueprints, catalogue offerings, service acceptance criteria and operational handover documentation.\n
  • \n

  • \nSupport the drafting of and negotiations for, the underpinning service contracts as required.\n

\n\n

Hosting and Cloud Services

\n

    \n
  • \nDesign application hosting services for legacy on‐prem platforms while supporting migration and modernisation into AWS private cloud.\n
  • \n

  • \nContribute to the development of standardised repeatable cloud service offerings (e.g. compute, storage, networking, platform services).\n
  • \n

  • \nWork closely with cloud engineering and architecture teams to ensure designs align with cloud standards, patterns and governance.\n
  • \n

  • \nSupport the organisation’s move towards a cloud orchestration model, enabling self‐service and automated service provisioning.\n

Service Transition

  • \nEnsure that operational requirements (availability, capacity, continuity, security, monitoring, support and recovery) are built into services from the outset.\n
  • \n

  • \nCollaborate with Service Operations to ensure smooth service transitions and effective handover to live support teams.\n
  • \n

  • \nDefine support models, SLAs, OLAs, runbooks and escalation paths.\n
  • \n

  • \nParticipate in service acceptance and readiness reviews.\n

Governance, Risk and Compliance

\n

  • \nEnsure services comply with organisational policies, security standards and regulatory requirements.\n
  • \n

  • \nEmbed risk management, resilience and security‐by‐design principles into service designs.\n
  • \n

  • \nSupport cost transparency and financial management by helping to develop cost models and chargeback/show-back solutions.\n

\n\n

Stakeholder Engagement

  • \nAct as a bridge between business stakeholders, product teams, engineers, operations, suppliers and vendors.\n
  • \n

  • \nTranslate business/service requirements into consumable, supportable service designs.\n
  • \n

  • \nProvide service design expertise to Agile delivery teams and participate as a team member in ceremonies as required.\n

Continuous Improvement

  • \nReview live services to identify opportunities for optimisation, standardisation and automation.\n
  • \n

  • \nContribute to continual service improvement initiatives across both on‐prem and cloud services.\n

  • \nPractical knowledge of ITIL (v3 or ITIL 4) service design and service management practices.\n
  • \n

  • \nUnderstanding of AWS cloud services, particularly in private or controlled cloud environments.\n
  • \n

  • \nExperience designing services across hybrid on‐prem and cloud infrastructures.\n
  • \n

  • \nAbility to design services with a strong focus on operability, resilience and supportability.\n
  • \n

  • \nExperience working within Agile delivery environments, collaborating with product and engineering teams.\n
  • \n

  • \nStrong documentation writing and service modelling skills.\n
  • \n

  • \nExcellent stakeholder management and communication skills.\n

  • \nExperience in organisations transitioning to cloud orchestration or service brokerage models.\n

  • \nFamiliarity with DevSecOps, automation and Infrastructure as Code concepts.\n

  • \nExperience with service catalogues, CMDBs and service management tooling.\n

  • \nKnowledge of financial management for IT services (e.g. cost modelling, chargeback/showback).\n
  • \n

  • \nExposure to security, compliance and risk frameworks within cloud environments.\n
  • \n

  • \nProven experience in a Service Designer, Service Architect, or similar role.\n
  • \n

  • \nExperience supporting application hosting services (on‐prem and/or cloud).\n
  • \n

  • \nITIL qualification (ITIL v3 or ITIL 4).\n
  • \n

  • \nAWS certification or demonstrable AWS experience.\n
  • \n

  • \nExperience working in large, highly-regulated or multi‐supplier environments.\n
