The Junior Application Support Engineer Role

  • \nWe are looking for a motivated Junior Applications Engineer to join our technical team to provide Applications Support to a major client for DXC.\n
  • \n

  • \nThis role will require an understanding of applications support. It will be a hybrid role with elements of office-based working in the Reading area and at home. The working hours will be a mixture of 7am – 3pm and 9:30am to 5:30pm. The maximum days on site per week will be 3-4.\n
  • \n

  • \nFocus on diagnosing, escalating, and resolving technical issues, ensuring applications remain stable while building foundational skills in coding, systems management, and customer communication.\n
  • \n

  • \nUndertake service management and minor enhancement activities involved in the ongoing delivery of Application Management.\n

Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • \nPerforming early morning checks to ensure applications are healthy before the users log in.\n
  • \n

  • \nMonitor, diagnose and resolve technical issues related to Windows desktop and server-based applications.\n
  • \n

  • \nManage incoming support requests ensuring all issues are troubleshooted and prioritised according to SLA.\n
  • \n

  • \nAssist in the deployment of software patches, upgrades and configuration changes across Production and Non-Production environments.\n
  • \n

  • \nInvestigate Windows Event Viewer and Application log analysis to identify root causes of application errors.\n
  • \n

  • \nCreate and update "how to guides" and knowledge base articles for common fixes and internal processes.\n
  • \n

  • \nCollaborate closely with other application engineers in the team as well as liaising with the client on a regular basis.\n
  • \n

  • \nWork together with the applications team to identify and implement continual service improvement activities.\n

Key Skills

\n

    \n
  • \n0-2 years of experience in IT support, application support, or a closely related technical field.\n
  • \n

  • \nStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities.\n
  • \n

  • \nExcellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.\n
  • \n

  • \nThe following technical skills would be beneficial:\n
  • \n

      \n
    • \nA basic understanding of ServiceNow\n
    • \n

    • \nExperience in using Windows-based Applications\n
    • \n

    • \nBasic knowledge of MS Azure\n
    • \n

    • \nExperience of using MS Office Suite\n
    • \n

    • \nAn understanding of ITIL Principles. ITIL V4 Foundation Certification is desirable\n
