Who Will You Work With

You will work with a well-established enterprise client operating a mission-critical, highly available network environment. The role involves close collaboration with internal IT teams, security teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors such as ISPs, cabling providers, and technology partners, supporting live customer environments and network transformation initiatives.

About the Role

As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the administration, support, and evolution of a complex LAN/WAN and security infrastructure. This role requires strong hands-on expertise across routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, wireless technologies, and network security, along with the ability to design and document network architectures (HLD/LLD). This is a contract, onsite position based in Coventry, UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and support a wider enterprise network environment in a highly available, mission-critical setup.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across the network IT landscape within tight SLAs.
  • Design and maintain High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD) aligned with customer requirements.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for existing and new network builds and configurations.
  • Gather technical and business requirements directly from customers and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with external vendors, including ISPs, cabling partners, and service providers.
  • Perform network modelling, analysis, and planning to support upgrades and expansions.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain network hardware and software components.
  • Execute network refresh and upgrade projects in live customer environments.
  • Perform proactive and reactive network troubleshooting, isolating and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Capture and analyze network traffic using Wireshark, Ethereal, SolarWinds, or equivalent tools.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience delivering 4–5+ network projects in live customer environments, including network refresh or upgrade initiatives.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in Cisco Routing and Switching (LAN & WAN) environments.
  • In-depth experience troubleshooting Cisco Nexus switches (1000v, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 9000 series), Cisco Enterprise Routers (3900, 3800), and LAN switches (3700, 3500, 2900 series).
  • Hands-on experience with Firewall and Security Technologies, including:
  • Cisco ASA (VPN & Firewall)
  • Palo Alto
  • Check Point
  • Pulse Secure SSL VPN
  • VMware NSX
  • Experience with F5 BIG-IP Load Balancers.
  • Strong understanding of IPSEC, GRE, DNS, and related network protocols.
  • Working knowledge of Proxy technologies and SSL.
  • Experience with authentication and identity systems such as SAML, SSO, LDAP, and Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Knowledge of wireless technologies, including WLCs, autonomous APs, and lightweight APs.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity technologies, protocols, and applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio for creating network diagrams and architectures.
  • Experience performing hardware installation and onsite network support activities.
