Validation Engineer

About Us:

At Dabster, we specialize in connecting high-caliber engineering talent with leading global technology and semiconductor organizations. We are currently seeking an experienced SoC Functional Validation Engineer to support one of our prestigious semiconductor clients based in the UK. Our goal is to deliver niche, high-impact talent for next-generation technology programs across Europe and the UK.

Who Will You Work With:

Our client is a leading semiconductor company working on next-generation SoC platforms powered by high-end ARM processors and advanced interconnect technologies. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams including Architects, RTL Verification, Electrical Testing & Characterization, and Production Firmware teams.

About the Role:

As a SoC Functional Validation Engineer, you will be responsible for functional validation and bring-up of advanced SoC platforms across pre-silicon and post-silicon environments. This role involves hands-on debugging, test development, and collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines.

This is a 6-month contract role with a strong possibility of extension.

The role is based in Bristol, UK, with onsite or hybrid working depending on project needs. Candidates based in the UK or Europe are welcome, provided they are open to travel to Bristol when required. Initially, the role will require onsite presence for approximately one month.

Note: Candidates must hold a valid visa or passport allowing travel to the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform functional validation of new SoC designs featuring high-end ARM processors.
  • Execute SoC bring-up and validation of key interfaces including:
  • LPDDR, Ethernet, PCIe, HBM
  • CPUs and Coherent Mesh
  • Low-speed IOs (UART, I2C, I3C, SPI)
  • Develop and execute bare-metal C test cases.
  • Debug and validate designs using FPGA HAPS / Zebu emulation platforms, followed by silicon-based target hardware.
  • Design and implement test infrastructure to support SoC validation activities.
  • Collaborate with Architects, RTL Verification, Electrical Testing & Characterization, and Production Firmware teams throughout the validation lifecycle.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in Embedded C programming.
  • Hands-on experience with ARM high-end CPUs and cache-coherent interconnect protocols.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces and protocols such as:
  • PCIe Gen6
  • Die-to-die links
  • LPDDR5
  • HBM3
  • Proven experience in pre-silicon and post-silicon SoC validation environments.

Desirable Skills:

  • Python scripting for automation and test support.
  • Experience with Silicon SoC bring-up.
  • Development of high-speed interface device drivers.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Candidates must provide a self-rating for the required technical skills.
  • Please clearly mention relevant projects that align closely with this role and responsibilities.

What We Offer:

  • Challenging Work: Be part of cutting-edge SoC validation programs for a leading semiconductor client.
  • Flexible Location: Open to UK and European candidates with travel flexibility.
  • Contract Opportunity: 6-month contract with strong potential for extension.
  • High-Impact Role: Opportunity to work on next-generation ARM-based SoC platforms.

Interview Process:

The interview process will typically include:

  • One or two rounds of technical interviews
  • A final project or stakeholder discussion, if required

How to Apply:

If you are an experienced SoC Functional Validation Engineer with strong ARM and high-speed interface validation experience, we'd love to hear from you.
