Lead Technical Architect - SC Cleared - Remote - £600 per day - Inside IR35
The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Lead Technical Architect to support our public sector client.
This is a senior, hands-on architecture role where you'll help shape and deliver complex, secure network and infrastructure solutions, working across multiple teams and engaging with senior stakeholders, government organisations and external partners.
You'll play a key role in defining technical strategy and roadmaps while ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, reliable and aligned with the wider enterprise architecture.
What You'll Be DoingAs Lead Technical Architect, you'll work closely with the Principal Technical Architect and wider architecture community to:
- Shape and maintain enterprise-level technical strategies, architectures and roadmaps.
- Lead the design and delivery of complex infrastructure and network solutions.
- Conduct and oversee technical design reviews, championing Secure by Design principles.
- Work with cross-government teams, third-party suppliers and external partners to deliver integrated solutions.
- Provide architectural leadership across multiple projects, balancing immediate delivery requirements with longer-term scalability and maintainability.
- Support the development and presentation of technical proposals to Technical Design Authorities and Security Boards.
- Support security and compliance activities relating to the hosting and migration of SD-WAN services.
- Identify technical risks and help teams navigate architecture, security, budget and delivery considerations.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to modernise and improve the technology estate.
- Mentor and coach Technical Architects, helping develop technical capability and architectural best practice across the wider team.
What We're Looking For
You'll be an experienced Technical Architect with a strong background in network engineering and complex infrastructure environments.
You'll ideally hold CCNP certification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience across:
- Networking concepts, switching and routing
- Firewalling and load balancing
- Cisco SD-WAN technologies
- BGP (Border Gateway Protocol)
- Designing secure, reliable and scalable technical solutions
- Leading complex technical architectures and design decisions
- Working across multiple projects, suppliers and technical domains
- Translating strategic requirements into practical technical solutions
- Working with senior technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Leading, coaching or mentoring architects and other technical professionals
You'll be comfortable taking ownership of complex technical challenges and communicating architecture decisions clearly to audiences ranging from engineering teams through to senior leadership.
Desirable ExperienceIt would also be beneficial if you have:
- Experience with Agile and DevOps environments.
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF.
- Experience delivering large-scale technology transformation or complex systems integration programmes.
- A BCS Certificate in Enterprise and Solution Architecture and/or TOGAF Foundation certification.
- An understanding of emerging technologies including cloud, AI and IoT.

This temporary contract is inside IR35 and will require working under the direction of the client delivery manager as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will follow established delivery processes and working practices.
