Technical Architect - Commercetools/MACH/Azure - £800 - £900 per day - Inside IR35
Contract | 6 months Initially | Primarily Remote | Occasional Whiteley/Fareham Travel
We're looking for a hands-on Technical Architect with strong Commercetools and composable commerce experience to take a leading role on a major strategic eCommerce platform.
This isn't an ivory-tower architecture role. We need someone who can lead technically, challenge engineering decisions, troubleshoot complex production issues and get into the code when needed.
The must-haves- Strong commercial Commercetools experience
- Excellent understanding of MACH/composable commerce architecture
- Hands-on TypeScript & Node.js
- Strong Microsoft Azure experience, particularly Azure Functions/PaaS
- React/Next.js knowledge
- Experience with APIs, microservices, serverless and event-driven architectures
- Strong B2C retail/eCommerce background
- Experience supporting complex, high-volume production platforms
- Strong technical leadership and the confidence to challenge suppliers and engineering teams
The environment
You'll be working across a modern commerce stack including:
Commercetools | TypeScript | Node.js | Azure | Azure Functions | React | Next.js | Cosmos DB | Contentful | Algolia | Talon.One | Adyen | Cloudflare | GitHub | OpenTelemetry/Splunk
You'll provide technical leadership across production support, incident resolution, architecture, code reviews, platform improvements and the transition of technical ownership from the incumbent supplier.
We're particularly interested in architects who still enjoy being close to the technology - someone comfortable looking at the code, logs, APIs and traces themselves rather than simply directing others.
Start: September/early October 2026
Duration: 6 months initially
Location: Primarily remote, with travel to Whiteley near Fareham approximately once every two weeks.

This temporary contract is inside IR35 and will require working under the direction of the client delivery manager as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will follow established delivery processes and working practices.
