General Ledger Specialist
General Ledger Specialist - City of London - Hybrid Working - £700-£1000 per day DOE
Our client is a London speciality insurer running a finance transformation programme, and the general ledger sits at the centre of it. They need a senior GL specialist who can own the ledger design, hold their ground with finance leadership and the systems integrator, and make sure what gets built still closes the books at quarter end.
You will be the programme's authority on how the ledger should work. That covers the chart of accounts, the entity and currency structure, journal and posting rules, and how data arrives from the subledgers. The work sits between the finance function, the technology team and the implementation partner, so you will spend as much time explaining and challenging as you will designing.
What you will do
- Lead the design, or redesign, of the chart of accounts and GL structure across the insurer's legal entities and reporting bases
- Define posting logic and accounting rules for the premium, claims, reinsurance and expense flows coming from upstream systems
- Run requirements and design workshops with the financial control, reporting and actuarial teams, and turn the output into specifications the delivery team can build from
- Support data migration, reconciliation and parallel runs, including sign-off of opening balances
- Act as the finance voice in testing and cutover, and help the business own the ledger once the programme steps back
Experience
- Significant hands-on experience as a GL lead, financial controller or finance systems SME on at least one full ledger implementation or major redesign
- Deep knowledge of multi-entity, multi-currency accounting, intercompany processes and period-end close
- Experience with a major ERP or finance platform such as Oracle Fusion, SAP S/4HANA, Workday Financials or Microsoft Dynamics
- A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or equivalent depth gained in practice
- Experience in the London Market, Lloyd's or a wider general insurance setting will set you apart
- Familiarity with IFRS 17, Solvency II reporting or Lloyd's returns, and with how those requirements shape the ledger and subledger design.
