Head of Technical Sales - Quantum Engineering

As Head of Sales Engineering & Technical Sales, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between highly complex technical solutions and commercial success. Leading the technical sales function, you will drive solution validation throughout the sales cycle, support strategic customer engagements, and ensure clients can successfully adopt and integrate advanced quantum technologies into their research and development environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical sales strategy for advanced software platforms and integrated technology solutions, ensuring customer requirements are aligned with product capabilities.
  • Partner with the commercial sales team to identify, qualify, and technically validate new business opportunities across universities, national laboratories, research institutions, and industrial customers.
  • Act as the technical authority throughout the sales cycle, supporting complex customer evaluations, demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, and solution design.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and strategic technology partners to enable successful deployment of solutions within existing technical environments.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and Engineering teams, translating customer feedback into future product development and roadmap priorities.
  • Lead technical enablement initiatives, delivering product training, technical workshops, and certification programmes alongside channel and technology partners.
  • Work with strategic ecosystem partners to develop reference architectures and best practices that accelerate customer adoption and support scalable go-to-market initiatives.
  • Develop and mentor a high-performing sales engineering function while driving continuous improvement across customer engagement processes.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. A Master's or PhD in Physics or a closely related field would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience in Technical Sales, Solutions Engineering, or a similar customer-facing technical leadership role.
  • Experience leading technical or solutions engineering teams within the Quantum industry
  • Demonstrated success selling complex technical solutions, ideally within high-performance computing (HPC), scientific instrumentation, advanced software platforms, cloud technologies, or other highly technical industries.
  • Strong understanding of the quantum computing ecosystem and the challenges associated with advanced research and engineering environments.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both highly technical specialists and senior commercial stakeholders.
  • Experience developing scalable technical enablement programmes for customers and partners.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with experience using CRM platforms and sales analytics tools to manage pipelines, forecast activity, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing technical customer engagements and cross-functional collaboration.
