Server Infrastructure Technical Engineer
Job summary
The Information Communication Technology Department has a vacancy for an ICT Server Infrastructure Technical Engineer.
The role of Server Infrastructure Technical Engineer is to maintain service capability of the Trusts IT infrastructure, specifically in the area of Systems, Servers, Storage, Security, Big Data, Virtualisation and Datacentre Support. The position provides technical expertise across a range of relevant IT technologies.
The server infrastructure team will provide expert-level IT technical support to over 5000 clinical and administrative colleagues across multiple sites including Darent Valley, Queen Marys Sidcup, Erith and Gravesend plus a number of other community based clinical staff.
This role is both technical and operational and will involve the day to day running of the IT support service to agreed service levels and installation of new hardware and systems.
The positions will actively partake in the Trust ICT On Call Rota
This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship. All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.
Main duties of the job
The responsibilities of the role call for someone: -
Educated to degree level in a Computer or related science subject or equivalent proven experience.
Expert Knowledge in a range of multiple operating systems such as MS Server 2012, 2019, UNIX, Linux etc
Knowledge of SQL Database Administration
SQL Cluster knowledge including SQL2019.
VMware and vCentre Proficiency
SAN, fibre channel and iSCSI expert knowledge
Good understanding of MS licencing model.
Proficiency in managing Backup and DR
Who has experience as a senior technician in server infrastructure environment. Ideally in an Acute NHS or equivalent environment

Job responsibilities
Infrastructure Management: to include level of responsibility for:
Support the Server Infrastructure Manager in the delivery of IT support services to the published Service Level Agreement
Investigate technically complex IT issues (incidents) raised to the Service Desk and escalated by the 2nd/3rd line support resources.
Head up the investigation, resolution and documentation of root causes of IT problems including severity level 1 incidents (System / departmental outages) and performance issues.
Support the Server Infrastructure Manager with the development and annual review of IT Disaster Recovery Plans.
Take part in the Research and Development of all elements of the IT Infrastructure determining what future technology would be of benefit to the Trust and how it should be implemented
Develop processes and procedures to ensure the IT infrastructure is proactively and robustly maintained.
Ensure the infrastructure teams issue resolution targets are met and calls updated.
Daily organisation of infrastructure tasks & standard checks of all infrastructure operability, interfaces, space, backups and remedial action where needed.
Act as the lead specialist for one or more specialist server infrastructure technologies
Ensure relevant inventories and CMDB (configuration management database) is updated and maintained.

Person Specification
Education and Training
- Computer or related science degree or equivalent proven experience.
- IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation Level
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MSCE)
- VMware Certified Professional 6.5 and above.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Expert Level
- Project management qualification
- Microsoft Certified Database Administrator MCDBA
- SAN Storage Qualification (Dell Powerstore/Unity)
Knowledge and Skills
- Extensive knowledge of IT standards and systems management. methodologies
