Solution Architect
4 Month Contract
Location: Home / Andover (2 days a week onsite)
Rate: £750 - £800 (Outside IR35)
We are looking to recruit a Solution Architect for a leading technology consultancy to support a major Army digital transformation programme. You will play a critical part in shaping, defining and delivering modern, secure and scalable technology solutions across the Army's digital ecosystem.
Working within a multi-disciplinary Defence team, you'll help define and implement solution architectures that modernise legacy systems, establish new digital standards, and ensure systems are interoperable, resilient, and aligned with strategic objectives.
The ideal candidate will bring strong Defence or Army experience - particularly an understanding of command, intelligence, and operational systems - combined with the technical expertise to design solutions that drive real operational advantage.
This is a hybrid role and you will be required to work 2 days a week onsite in Andover. Valid SC clearance is essential, and previous MOD / Army experience is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the definition, design, and delivery of complex, secure solution architectures within the Army transformation programme.
- Translate business and user needs into integrated, scalable, and sustainable technology solutions.
- Guide the modernisation and migration of legacy services, ensuring reuse, performance and compliance with digital standards.
- Collaborate with technical, data, and business colleagues to ensure architecture is embedded throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Identify and evaluate alternative designs, balancing trade-offs in cost, performance, and scalability.
- Produce and communicate high-level artefacts to guide design and development teams.
- Champion architectural principles, patterns, and lifecycle best practices.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and architectural guidance to delivery teams.
- Support pre-sales and bid activity, contributing to solution design, estimation and planning.
- Ensure adherence to corporate, industry and Defence standards and frameworks.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect on large-scale, complex transformation programmes.
- Strong Army or Defence background, ideally with knowledge of command, control, and intelligence systems.
- Deep understanding of architecture frameworks, design standards and methodologies.
- Experience with secure software development lifecycles, OWASP, GDPR, and NCSC Cloud Security Principles.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver secure, integrated solutions in sensitive or classified environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Experience leading or contributing to multi-disciplinary delivery teams.
- Highly organised, adaptable and delivery-focused.
