Telecoms Pre-Sales Engineer / Project Manager - Datacentres

Overview:

We are seeking a technically proficient and commercially aware Telecoms Pre-Sales Engineer or Project Manager to support the design, costing, and delivery of fibre and telecoms infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in a delivery, pre-sales or project management role who is a subject matter expert in fibre optics, splicing, testing, and CAB installations within data halls. You’ll play a key role in shaping bid strategies, engaging with clients, and ensuring seamless project handovers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the production of technical designs and bid documentation for telecoms infrastructure projects, including fibre networks and CAB installations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and supply chain partners to develop accurate, competitive proposals aligned with client requirements.
  • Engage in early-stage project planning and pre-sales consultations, translating technical requirements into commercially viable solutions.
  • Ensure all bid submissions are technically sound, commercially competitive, and aligned with client expectations and timelines.
  • Maintain and update sales pipeline data, supporting business development with technical insights and market intelligence.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for fibre infrastructure, advising on splicing, testing, and installation best practices.
  • Support project delivery teams post-award, ensuring a smooth transition from bid to build, including knowledge transfer and supplier coordination.
  • Represent the business at client meetings, industry events, and technical workshops to promote capabilities and gather market feedback.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong technical background in telecoms infrastructure, particularly fibre optics (e.g., 24-core fibre), splicing, and testing.
  • Experience with CAB installation in data halls or similar environments.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical solutions to wholesalers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness, including cost estimation, risk identification, and bid strategy development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Excellent communication, time management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Relevant industry certifications and accreditations (e.g., fibre splicing, health & safety) are advantageous.
