Cyber Security Engineer– South West London – Permanent (37.5 hours per week) –£60,000 - £75,000 per annum– SC Clearance
As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will play a key role in embedding robust security across the full systems engineering lifecycle for cutting-edge defence products, with a particular focus on industrial control systems and operational technology. You will lead on threat modelling, risk assessment, and vulnerability management activities, applying industry frameworks such as NIST CSF and MITRE ATT&CK.
Working closely with engineering teams, you will ensure the integrity of security artefacts and compliance with MOD standards including DEFSTAN 05-138/139. You will also drive innovation by introducing automation and exploring AI-led approaches to enhance security assurance. This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days on site per week and requirement to travel to customer sites occasionally.
The Key Responsibilities of a Job Title:
• Drive the advancement and increased use of automation in cyber security risk and vulnerability assessment activities, including leveraging Artificial Intelligence where appropriate.
• Deliver cyber security expertise across all stages of the product systems engineering lifecycle.
• Ensure the accuracy and consistency of cyber security risk management artefacts, while providing clear and timely technical guidance to delivery teams.
• Coordinate and plan cyber security tasks for products, contributing to effort estimation and resource planning.
• Collaborate with project and security leadership to implement pragmatic and effective cyber security solutions.
• Support the ongoing development and maturity of product cyber security capabilities, including contributing to professional accreditation initiatives.
Below is a list of Key Skills required for the job role, however you will not be expected to have everything:
• Solid foundation in cyber security and/or engineering, supported by a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent practical experience.
Demonstrated interest in securing industrial control systems and operational environments.
Experience working with both cyber security data and engineering design information.
• General understanding of industrial control systems (ICS).
Working knowledge of the NIST Cyber Security Framework (CSF).
Practical experience in threat modelling using recognised frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK, DEF3ND, or EMB3D.
• Experience applying cyber security risk management principles.
Hands-on experience with vulnerability management, including patching and system updates.
Desirable Skills:
• Understanding of Secure by Design principles aligned to UK MOD standards, including DEFSTAN 05-139 and DEFSTAN 05-138.
• Familiarity with ISA 62443 standards for industrial cyber security.
• Experience within, or certification related to, Operational Technology (OT) or Industrial Control Systems (ICS).
