Front End Developer – Southampton, Surrey or Gloucester – 6 Month Contract (37.5 hours per week) – £675 - £720 per day inside IR35 – SC or DV Cleared

Our client is a leading engineering company that supports government and industry partners worldwide in maximising their investments in science and technology. They deliver tailored research and development, independent advice, and solutions to complex technical challenges, drawing on expertise in communications, electronic sensors, and information assurance across civil and military domains.

The Front End Developer role involves designing and building modern, responsive front-end applications using React and TypeScript, while collaborating with teams to deliver real-time, data-driven user interfaces integrated with backend systems.

Working Patterns and location – 1 day working onsite in Southampton, Surrey or Gloucester, 1 days working on client site in Wiltshire.

The Key Responsibilities of a Front End Developer:

  • Build and maintain responsive front-end interfaces using React and TypeScript.
  • Develop real-time features that handle live data using tools like WebSockets or SignalR.
  • Work closely with engineers, architects, and users to shape requirements and improve the overall experience.
  • Help design scalable, maintainable front-end architecture and connect the UI to backend APIs and services.
  • Write clean, secure, well-tested code while taking part in agile team activities and documenting your work clearly.

Below is a list of Key Skills required for Front End Developer, however you will not be expected to have everything:

  • Enjoy building clean, user-friendly interfaces that are easy to use and look good.
  • Comfortable working with different teams and speaking directly with users to understand their needs.
  • Proactive problem solver who takes ownership and looks for better ways of doing things.
  • Interested in learning how the wider business and technical setup works.
  • Able to pick up new tools and technologies quickly when needed.
  • Solid front-end skills in JavaScript and frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Some exposure to modern tooling and environments (e.g. Node.js, Docker, cloud platforms, or basic scripting) is a bonus.
