The role

• We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help architect, build and scale the core platform powering Deep Medical's products.
• You'll work across distributed systems, healthcare data infrastructure, APIs and AI-powered services partnering closely with CS, product and machine learning teams to bring new capabilities into production.
• We are growing and expanding the team, with the CEO taking personal leadership of the product and engineering vision.
• This isn't a role just about maintaining legacy systems or incrementally improving internal tooling. You'll help build the technical foundations of a category-defining healthcare AI company.

What you'll do

• Design and build scalable backend services and APIs powering AI-driven healthcare applications.
• Architect systems capable of processing large volumes of sensitive healthcare data securely and reliably.
• Build the platform infrastructure that enables Healthcare Capacity Intelligence at scale.
• Collaborate with ML to productionise models and integrate AI capabilities into robust, observable services.
• Own system reliability, performance and operational excellence through monitoring, alerting and observability.
• Design secure systems that meet the demands of healthcare and regulated environments.
• Influence technical strategy and contribute to architectural decision-making.
• As we grow, mentor engineers and help raise the quality and effectiveness of engineering across the organisation.
• Work closely with product and operational teams to deliver solutions with measurable impact.

What we're looking for

Core requirements

• 5+ years building backend systems in production environments.
• Strong experience with ideally either Python or TypeScript.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale.
• Strong understanding of databases, data modelling and system design.
• Experience building and maintaining APIs (REST, GraphQL and/or gRPC).
• Experience with AWS.
• Experience taking technical ownership of systems and driving projects from design through to production.
• Experience with Docker, ECS, Kubernetes or similar container platforms.

Nice to have

• Experience deploying and operating ML or AI systems in production.
• Experience with Django Framework.
• Experience with IaC such as terraform.
• Familiarity with GDPR, information security and compliance frameworks.
