Web Accessibility Specialist

If you are an experienced Web Accessibility Specialist we have a new contract we would like to discuss with you. Please note this contract is for 3-6 months, falls inside IR35 and ideally requires one day per week onsite.

Lead and embed web accessibility best practice across our Power platform and Data products, ensuring services meet WCAG 2.2 AA and the Government Service Standard.

What you’ll do

  • Provide expert support, advice and guidance to multidisciplinary teams; bring the voice of disabled users into design and delivery.
  • Plan and run accessibility audits and testing (manual, automated and with assistive technologies); prioritise fixes and track compliance.
  • Define and maintain industry standards, patterns, Industry best practices and guardrails aligned to GOV.UK guidance and the GOV.UK Design System
  • Coach teams and deliver training to improve capability; contribute to cross-government accessibility community practice.
  • Support publication and upkeep of accessibility statements and evidence for service assessments.

Essential skills & experience

  • Proven expertise in WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive tech (screen readers, magnifiers, voice input), and practical remediation.
  • Experience of manual and automated testing (e.g., Axe, Lighthouse, WAVE) and embedding checks in CI/CD.
  • Ability to communicate between technical and non-technical audiences and influence product direction.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with the GOV.UK Service Standard, GOV.UK Design System, and producing accessibility statements.
  • Experience with Power Platform (Power Apps/Power BI) UI patterns and accessible component libraries.
