Graduate AI Engineer
Permanent | Hybrid (3 days on-site) | £35,000-£48,000 | Stock Options
We have partnered with an early-stage AI startup building intelligent software for the maintenance, engineering, and industrial operations space.
They’re looking for a proactive, confident, Graduate Software Developer to join the team and grow alongside the business as they scale their AI-driven platform.
This is a strong opportunity for someone early in their career who has already started building with AI outside of university or commercial work, whether through personal projects, open-source contributions, hackathons, internships, or production deployments.
The team care far more about curiosity, initiative, and evidence of building than perfect commercial experience.
What you’ll be working on:
- Supporting development of AI-powered applications and workflow tooling
- Building backend services, APIs, and integrations
- Working with LLMs, AI agents, RAG pipelines, embeddings, and prompt workflows
- Contributing to frontend product functionality and internal tooling
- Helping improve AI outputs, reliability, and user experience
- Collaborating closely with experienced engineers and founders on real production systems
- Learning how AI products are designed, deployed, monitored, and scaled in live customer environments
Tech environment:
- Python (~60% of existing codebase)
- TypeScript / JavaScript
- Node.js / FastAPI
- AWS > Potential to move to GCP
- REST APIs
- AI agents / RAG / vector databases
- Modern LLM tooling
They’re looking for someone who:
- Has recently graduated or is early in their software engineering career
- Has built AI or LLM-related projects either commercially, academically, or personally
- Enjoys learning quickly and experimenting with new technologies
- Has a solid software engineering foundation across backend or fullstack development
- Is excited by startups, ownership, and solving real-world problems
- Communicates well and enjoys collaborative environments - willing to give input and not only take direction
Examples of experience they’d value:
- AI side projects
- Chatbots or AI agents
- RAG pipelines
- Prompt engineering
- Open-source contributions
- Hackathons
- Production deployments
- Personal tools built with OpenAI/Anthropic APIs
- GitHub portfolios showing experimentation and curiosity
This would suit someone who genuinely enjoys building, experimenting, and learning fast within an AI-first startup environment.
