Primary Care Support & Information Governance Assurance Lead

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity within the Clinical Directorate, Information Governance team for an experienced Information Governance professional to join us in the role of Primary Care Support & IG Assurance Lead to cover maternity leave, on a fixed term or secondment basis until June 2025.

The key objective of this role is to provide support to the Primary Care Support and Information Governance Assurance Manager/ DPO Service Manager, ensuring the continued implementation, assurance of a number of Primary Care, Information Governance work programmes and supporting the developments of the Welsh Information Governance Toolkit.

The role will require knowledge of Information Governance, Data Protection and Confidentiality.

You will be required to hold a relevant degree or have experience in an Information Governance role with experience in information governance work programs.

Ideally holding a recognised qualification in Data Protection.

This rolecan be based at any of our DHCW Offices.

Part-time, job share and/or flexible working (including home working) options are also available.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidates must have a flexible approach to working, along with excellent communication and organisational skills, in order to support the development of a robust information governance framework and provide ongoing support, advice and guidance to programs in all matters of data protection and information governance.

They will be responsible on a data to day basis for information governance work for primary care service and Welsh IG Toolkit work programs, providing Information governance expertise, identifying best practice and making recommendations.

The postholder must have information governance skills and knowledge. Experience of working in health and/or social care is desirable but not essential for this role.

Due to geography and spread of the service you will be required to have a flexible approach to work and be able to travel on occasion to various sites across Wales as required; this may require overnight stays.

Person Specification

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience
  • Have or be working to information law professional qualifications such as British Computer Society (BCS) suite of Information related certificates
Desirable
  • Registered with a relevant informatics professional body, for example, BCS
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in related fields

Experience

Essential
  • Experience of producing high quality information for an internal and external audience
  • Experience of working on projects that support better IG practice and highlight successes
  • Understanding of confidentiality based on UK data protection/UKGDPR and Caldicott principles
  • Knowledge and experience of using technical language and terminology
  • Experience of developing procedures and guidance documents, and updating information resources on an All-Wales basis
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills when dealing with highly complex and sensitive information to and from a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience or prioritising work to meet deadlines in a highly pressured environment.
