Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced data engineer on afixed term basisto join our team asPrincipal Data Analyst. This post will play a key role in maximizing the potential of the data we collect to improve patient care and services across Wales.
The ideal candidate will combine a blend of strong technical skills with practical flair and commitment to team working for developing and coordinating key data flows into our warehouse environment, to support critical workstreams including a wide range of areas. You will act as a leader within your area, with managerial accountability for some data engineers,warehousingand acquisition professionals.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Degree level attained in a management and / or IM&T subject, or equivalent experience
- Masters degree or equivalent experience in information-related subject
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- The post holder will have good knowledge of oCurrent and potential uses of NHS information, and familiarity with the methods of data acquisition and processing of data oAnalysing data and presenting information using tables, charts, reports, maps, and dashboards oData warehousing, the analysis of large datasets and record linkage oSQL Server Business Intelligence tools oGraphical Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis oNHS IM&T policy, strategy, information governance and related issues, for both England and Wales
- Registered with a relevant informatics professional body
- Management Qualification (ILM)
- Knowledge of the NHS, other healthcare systems, or the health sector, including regional or national variations.
Experience
- Significant experience working in Information and IT
- Good knowledge and experience of working with several national information services on behalf of the NHS
- In depth knowledge of current IT development tools and methodologies (programming; relational database design)
- Proven experience of working in a research based environment
- Good knowledge of Data Acquisition, data extraction and switching service processes
- Kimball DW design methodologies
- XML and related technologies

- End to end SQL Server development, integration, administration and Business Intelligence
